2001 Peugeot 107 strange noise and juddering

Car: Peugeot 107
Year: 2001
Variant: 206, 2.0, HDI
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
There seemed to be a problem with the clutch, the engine was physically shaking when pulling away in 1st, 2nd and reverse and occasionally the gears would lock in neutral as I tried to change (worse moving down from 5th). Now, there is an additional, constant engine noise, which is subtle but definitely audible.

Does anyone have any ideas about likely causes and/ or ways to narrow the problem down?

I'm a bit reluctant to get the clutch repaired if there is another, possibly major underlying problem.

Thanks!

Sounds like knackered clutch .

i wonder if the gear is sticking, the gears probably need topping up with gear oil.

If that car has a DMF ( DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL ) THAT COULD BE YOUR PROBLEM

X2 clutch fault most probably .

Dual mass flywheel sound most likely to me, will need a clutch as well, clutch isn't too expensive, DMV about £200, plus labour, sorry

No DMF but sounds like clutch release bearing. Needs doing unfortunately
