1998 Peugeot 106 temp light and fan come on after a short drive

Car: Peugeot 106
Year: 1998
Variant: 1.4 auto
Categories: Leaks & Noises
I notice that if the heater is set to cold the engine water temp light and fan come on but if the heater is set to half or full heat, the problem will not occur, is this a faulty thermostat, air lock, or something more serious?
oil and water are clean, not leaks and runs ok so i dont expect a head gasket fault..

Could be thermostat sticking , water pump , radiator partially blocked , coooling system needing flushed out and bled etc.etc .
