Gear selector stuck in park

i parked the car up as usual, next morning went to go to work, and couldnt move the selector out of park... was like it is locked in park..... any ideas most appreciated thanks.

check brake lights as the selector will only unlock if foot brake applied,then check electrical connection between lever and stop light switch
