Very stiff Steering

2002 Peugeot 106 independence 3 door 1.1l
Car: Peugeot 106
Year: 2002
Variant: independence 3 door 1.1l
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Tie rod ends, wishbones and drive shafts have been replaced. Alignment has been done and whilst there is an improvement the steering is still rather stiff and there's a squeaking noise coming from the driver side tyre when turning left.
Aside from the possibility that the steering rack itself may be the problem, can anyone provide insight as to what the issue could be, bearing in mind the work that has already been done?
Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks ...

Shock absorber top mounts/bearings.
The shock has to come out and then the spring removed to get the buggers out.
But that's usually the fault.

Check the steering column universal joint coupling .
