Engine cutting out

1994 Nissan Sunny 1.4 petrol
Car: Nissan Sunny
Year: 1994
Variant: 1.4 petrol
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
This problem is getting worse. The engine starts fine and seems to be idling ok. However, at times, when I am slowing down approaching a junction or roundabout for example, and I need to change down to lower gears, when I press the clutch down to change the rev count will drop to almost 0 and consequently the engine cuts out. This only happened rarely but is happening a couple of times per trip now. The engine re-starts fine, but obviously this is not ideal. Please help.
