Sluggish on exceleration

Every now and then it seems to pull back on exceleration, as though the fuel is not getting through? or miss firing?

has the car been serviced recently if not get a full service done changeing air and fuel filters could be maf sensor fault are there any fault codes logged also is it petrol or diesel

Further to " Rovermans" advice , could be a coil pack breaking down ,and dropping a cyl before clearing .Could also check plugs .( if petrol engine)
