car revs over 2500 revs when starts from cold

Should run a little higher than normal idle but not as bad as that .Could try replacing engine coolant temp sensor .If an engine coolant temperature sensor fails it can send a false signal to the computer affecting the fuel and timing settings . Could also check for any vac leaks and clean MAF .
