If the light is flashing it is a warning that the ecu is reading a fault in the system or the ATF (automatic transmission fluid is overheating ) You really need to get it scanned to see what fault codes are stored as there are so many possible causes .

Hi Thanks for the answers but the AA plug into the car and could not find any codes that were saying fault as nothing came up in the end we have to get towed home and my car is sitting out side as i will not drive it just in case it cuts out again as you lost all control of it we are waiting for our friend to see if he can find out what the problems is.

In the 3/4 hr you waited for the AA to come would be enough for the ATF to cool down enough for the light to reset .If they said there was a leak it would be worth checking .To check the level correctly it must be driven to the correct temp , so AA man may not have topped up correctly .I have posted a link at bottom for procedure .Also if ATF is discoloured or smells of burning it may need changing .I believe every 54,000 is the mileage recommended .Also correct ATF is vital , usually Diamond SPIII or equivalent .
