Dripping coolant from engine

2000 Mitsubishi Pajero 2.5turbo diesel auto

Help..... I have dripping coolant from just behind the thermostat. When the car is not running there is no drip. When its turned on it starts to drip and I have read in Haynes that this is to tell you the water pump is busted.

Is this right?
Do I need to replace the water pump?

I could not see a hole and Ian not sure what to do. I have replaced the head and the cambelt. It's had a new radiator and still the car looses water. Could this be the reason why???

Very possible it's the water pump , bearing / seal goes causing it to leak . A pressure test on cooling system will confirm leak if in doubt .

Hi again. Thanks again for the info. The drip is coming from just behind the thermo. Is this the base of the waterpump? I have ordered a replacement water pump which I will be fitting tomorrow. Thanks again. Dean

Could be leaking from pump spindle, pump body , themostat housing , gasket etc.
