2001 Mitsubishi Galant engine mangement light on

The engine mangement light stays on and the car drinks lot of fuel can you tell me the problem and how to resolve it.

if the light is on it means there is a fault code stored in the ecu .just get any garage to bread the codes with a scanner re post if code doesnt lead directly to fuel usage problem.you can buy scanners on the net cheply but not worth it for one code
