Manual Gear shift wont move

2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS
Car: Mitsubishi Eclipse
Year: 2005
Variant: Spyder GS
Categories: Gearbox & Clutch
I've had this car for over a year now and had never had any problems until the other day. As in headed down a back road, I come across a bunch of debris blocking the road. So I stopped, showed my 5 yrs old what what to stuff when the water rises. I decided to backup into a nearby driveway, but when i threw it into reverse, the shifter wouldn't move right, only down into 4th gear. Having had previous issues with reverse (not always catching the 1st time), it started to double clutch it and realized I didnt feel it go into neutral and that it would only move half way forward. After several attempts, I released the clutch b4 turning off the car, just to see if it was actually in a gear so I knew whether or not I could push it. It was, and still the gear shift wont move left or right and doesn't disengage 4th gear. Now, do take into consideration, I have never had any previous issues shifting other than my occasional laziness of not pushing the clutch all the way to the floor, BUT I also know that the drivers side of my CV axle and throw out bearing are needing replaced and have been for the past 4-5 months I've been driving around. The throw out was/is to the point that it basically made a constant rattle. Could this be caused by the throw out finally giving up or am I looking at another issue to address? This is a front wheel drive car.

From what you say It does sound like the clutch release bearing has collapsed which is not good news as bits COULD possibly be flying about in the bell housing / clutch assembly causing damage .
