2011 Mitsubishi ASX auto gearbox problem

My daughter in Australia has the above vehicle bought new in 2011. Twice now she has had a problem with the auto gearbox where when she puts it into drive (D) the gearbox engages reverse gear. She has taken the vehicle back to the dealer she bought it from and they just fobbed her off saying it was mechanically impossible. My question is does anyone know if this has happened before anywhere in the world or if there is any recall of the vehicle with this problem. I believe my daughter when she tells me this has happened because she was proud to buy a new car so she has nothing to lie about. I live in uk so can't check for myself.

did the dealers sit in the car and tested it for themselves, they need to test it and if it's still doing the same then obviously there's a fault and they are obliged to fix it.

Hi thanks for answering my query. Yes they have sat in the vehicle but it's like murphy's law it doesn't happen when you want it too. They tried several times but couldn't get it to engage reverse gear so that's why they are saying its mechanically impossible.
