1992 Mercedes Benz SLK non starter

I'm fixing a slk 500 for my father in law he's let the battery run down and not run the car for 2-3 months I've charged the battery up and now it won't fire up it try's then it back fires and that's it. It's never done this it's always a good starter. I've put new plugs in,new fuel. I'm thinking its damp???

First make sure you have fuel reaching the plugs---are they wet after cranking engine? and check you have a good spark at plugs.

Try holding the acclerator on the floor while you turn over the engine .(provided the battery is good / well charged up )

Plugs are wet after I turn it over,and if I put my accelerator down it just back fires and stops turning over?
