2000 Mercedes Benz CLK soft-top warning light and boot won't open.

This is driving me mad. I'm certain that the fact that the soft-top warning light and audible warning sound every time I start the car - plus the fact that I can't unlock the boot with the remote, are connected to some sort of microswitch which governs the vast majority of soft-tops to avoid damage(?). I have attached and detached the luggage divider in the boot but it makes no difference. I have tried every combination I can see of opening the boot manually/automatically with the same result. Any ideas anyone please?

Been told you must make sure that the partition cover in the boot is pulled foward and latched into the switch . Also came across this ,
Odds are RST (top control module) thinks the top boot cover is not closed. This over rides the trunk latch so you dont crash the trunklid into the boot cover. Limit switches are a common problem for this.
Turn the boot key counter clockwise first and hold, then press. Try 45 degrees and 90 degrees.

Thanks a lot for that. Yes, I thought that was probably where the problem was. I hadn't noticed until this started that there are three catches on the 'interior' lid - one marked 'press' and the other two (seemingly) are just hooks to latch the interior cover onto. However, one of those two catches is missing. Although it doesn't appear to have any connection to anything, I'm starting to wonder now?
