Major Oil leak

2001 Mercedes Benz A Class
Car: Mercedes Benz A Class

Hi

My car wouldn't start so we called the RAC out who hit something inside the engine which made the car work. Since then its happened 6 - 8 times which my husband fixes by doing the same thing. Today he hits it and cracks the casing - we think its the oil gasket?. My husband then gets the car moving by rolling it and jolting it out of gear. He leaves the bonnet and it sprays oil at him. Then goes on the empty all of the car's oil over the drive.

We've booked the car in with a mercedes specialist next week but I'm really worried about the cost.

Two things to note an engine light is permanently on in the car which has been tested but no one knows what it is - the CAT has been replaced twice. I've since been advised just to leave it - I've had this for about 18 months. Also we've just topped the coolant up after it got really low.

Any advise on what this is and the cost would be appreciated it.

i not sure that you could crack the engine casing but you might have busted the timing chain cover which is plastic, (front left of the engine) try dronsfield breakers for a replace ment, not too compicated, as for engine light i think it may be the engine management light, this normally comes on if the air flow sensor is done in, the ecu and sensor all in 1, 954 + vat from Mercs, try ecu repairs, find them on ebay did mine for 210+vat. regards
