Timing not retarding on acceleration (pinks)

When accelerating, even when I drop a gear, the engine has piston rattle.(pinks) I feel the timing is not retarding enough.Can anyone help. Thanks.Jan

When was the timing belt last checked / replaced ? Could have jumped throwing the timing out .
