when stuck in traffic noticed plumes of smoke from exhaust disapears quickly loss of coolant strong smell from exhaust running at normal temperture not over heating engine does not run rough it points to cracked cylinder head have you come across this before or any other ideas on this model

These are generaly a good engine but from what you describe you have a head gasket problem, i have never had to buy a new head for these cars just send them away for skimming and new gasket and bolts
