2007 Land Rover Freelander over rev problem

Car: Land Rover Freelander
Year: 2007
Variant: 2 SE TD4
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Driving on the highway - When you want to accelerate from 80/100 KM/HR up-words, the car sometimes over-rev and you must take your foot of the pedal. It seems to happen mostly when in highest gear (Automatic). It also feels if the power lags and when accelerating it don't kick back quick enough and over-rev. When accelerating slower to120 KM/HR no problem. This can also happen at slower speed but I expect its always in the highest gear.

You really need it scanned for automatic gearbox fault codes or better still , checked out by a good , local , approved , independent auto trans specialist .But sounds like it MAY be the internal clutch packs worn , on their way out

Thanks for your response, I will take car to a dealer. It is old, but only has 140,000 km's on the clock. Do you think it will improve the problem, by draining, cleaning and refilling the transmission first?

It's certainly worth trying changing the fluid first , often cures a lot of faults
