2000 Land Rover Freelander no compression

My car starts after a while and ticks over but when im driving and get to a junction or have to stop it cuts out.Ive had compression test done and 3 cylinders are 90 psi and 1 is 120 psi.There is no water leaks or over heating..im thinking valves need grinding in but im not sure...any ideas anybody

Could be valves as you suggest or worn pistons / bores etc , general wear on engine , especially if high mileage .You wont know till you pull the head off , hope its just valves .

Hi Darren, I know Land rover had massive problems with cylinder liners on the Freelander, but i`m not sure which models or what years were affected, or even if this would cause the problems you mention. Maybe someone else who knows more can shed some light on things.

You could do a smoke test with the appropriate cylinder on compression stroke would give you an idea of where compressions being lost.
