Black smoke

2004 Hyundai Tucson 2.0 manual
Car: Hyundai Tucson
Year: 2004
Variant: 2.0 manual
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
I have had the vehicle 6 weeks it has been in the dealers to be repaired 3 times When i drive the vehicle it throws out thick black smoke and when your foot is on the accelerator it feel like the vehicle is dragging and then all of a sudden it moves quicker and when the vehicle went in to be repaired they said it was a valve that opens and closes to burn the fuel before it throws out the fumes through the exhaust and that was stuck open, that was fixed and still it threw black smoke out.
I took it back 2nd time they say it could be the injectors so they cleaned it and they said they fixed yet still it throws black smoke out.
I took it back the 3rd time and said they found a hole in the cylinder head so they fixed that and yet still it throws black smoke out when driven what could be the problem? Regards cooltaff11

Hi There are several reasons for Black smoke and one by one they should be eliminated till it stops- My 2004 and now my 2007 Limited have never suffered from anything at all (touch wood).
1. Check fuel pressure-Low pressure is one cause
2. High pressure pump faulty (possibility as have heard of this one and it did lead to total injector and engine failing in crete)
3.Faulty injector ie blow by seat leaking or wiring harness faulty.
4.Air intake restricted- check your air filters not blocked.
5.Turbo wastegate problems (only heard of 1 fail in since 2004 when they came out)
6.Cam Crank sensor failure
7.EGR problems.

Look I hope some of this helps-dont be put off by the list these are just things that do cause diesels to spew out black smoke and of course its important to sort it asap. Is your vehicle still within warranty? It has to go back to the Hyundai Dealer and if he cannot do it he always has Hyundai Technicians to fall back on for the correct answer.
