Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I have replaced the crankshaft sensor but engine light still on and still difficult to start but car seems to drive well and no loss of power I have scanned the car again this morning and retrieved the following code. U1111 P0336 P0335.

The P0335 and P0336 codes on a Hyundai i40 1.7 diesel indicate a malfunction in the Crankshaft Position Sensor 'A' Circuit, specifically a Circuit Malfunction (P0335) and a Range/Performance Issue (P0336). These codes suggest the Engine Control Module (ECM) is not receiving a reliable signal from the crankshaft position sensor, which is critical for determining ignition timing and fuel injection.
The U1111 code typically indicates a lost communication with another control module, which often occurs as a secondary symptom when the ECM loses crankshaft data or fails to initialize properly due to the sensor fault.
Common Causes and Solutions
Faulty Crankshaft Sensor: The sensor itself may be defective or have internal wiring issues.
Connector Problems: Corrosion, loose pins, or poor connection at the sensor harness are frequent causes. One user noted that rotating the pins in the connector can restore a good connection.
Wiring Damage: Inspect the wiring harness for breaks, chafing, or damage between the sensor and the ECM.
Sensor Clearance: Improper mounting or rust buildup on the tone ring can alter the gap between the sensor and the reluctor, causing performance issues (P0336).
ECM Issues: In rare cases, the Engine Control Module itself may be faulty, though sensor and wiring issues are far more common.
Recommended Steps
Visual Inspection: Check the crankshaft position sensor connector for corrosion or loose pins.
Test the Sensor: Use a multimeter to check the sensor's resistance and signal output according to manufacturer specifications.
Check Wiring: Trace the wiring from the sensor to the ECM for any visible damage.
Clear Codes: After addressing the potential cause, clear the codes and test drive to see if they return. If the P0335/P0336 codes persist, replacing the crankshaft position sensor is the most likely fix.
