2006 Hyundai Getz lack of power, hyundai getz.

Car: Hyundai Getz
Year: 2006
Variant: 1.1 GSI
Categories: Engine & DrivetrainRunning Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi,

So I have a 1.1 GSI Hyundai Getz on 2006.

When the car is cold it has normal power, when the car gets warm it lacks power and you notice it more on inclines.

I have had it in with a mechanic and said to him about the crankshaft pulley problems these Getz sometimes have but he says when scanning the vehicle the car js reading it’s -41 degrees when it’s warm which is causing a fuel issue so that’s why the car lacks power.

Has anyone else had this issue and agree with that diagnosis?

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

So when the computer is plugged in it gives him live data, i guess it’s the coolant temp sensor which reads this so we had that changed but didn’t make any difference.

Thanks

If his scanner is accurate and that is what the temp that the ECU is reading it will cause all sorts of problem . If sensor replaced and still reading wrong , could it be this sensor that is faulty ( if it applies to your year / model )

Yeah so basically he recommends going to an auto electrician, he reckons in the end it will need the ecu flashing, the temp sensor was a genuine part and he actually got a reading of -37 on the original one before replacing, so it actually got worse!

The other link I posted is for a different sensor as opposed to the engine coolant temp sensor . USUALLY when a coolant sensor is that far out of sync it confuses the ECU and if it's a minus reading it then try to compensate by enriching the fuel needed and you often can smell petrol by over fuelling

Yeah that makes sense I guess, basically I’m looking at £200-£400 to sort this (ECU). I just wanted to try and get a second opinion/someone confirm that the diagnosis makes sense, before spending that money and it turn out to be a clutch or crankshaft pulley or even worse something more simple!

If it was the clutch it would show more on hills and when under load with lack of power and clutch slip / increased revs . Can also be caused by a partially blocked cat / exhaust causing restriction

It does show a lot on hills, I couldn’t get up one hill. However when talking to the mechanic I use he’s believes the clutch is fine and it’s because of the incorrect temp reading. He also had this same problem with a Vauxhall Corsa, new ECU sorted everything apparently.
