Constant ticking noise when driving.

Bought car 6 weeks ago. I did not notice this noise on the first day I took it home but have done since. It is very loud. Someone suggested poss oil? I check this regularly and the water etc
I used to own a Citreon Saxo 1.1 S Reg. Could this loud noise just be more noticeable because of the complete change of model?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
If this is a fault I will not be happy cause it is so young and ony 57,000 on the clock
