When I switch on heated rear screen, radio reception is blocked with interference.

Check all grounds for the radio, antenna and rear heated screen

Is it an in glass antenna on your car or conventional aerial ?

Yes, it is an aerial embedded in the rear window and the reception has never been very good.
I will inspect the wiring/earthing as best I can.

I have heard of some where the only solution was a new window , hopefully not in your case .
