2003 Ford Streetka starter motor problem

Car: Ford Streetka
Year: 2003
Variant: Luxury Cabriolet
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Since i bought the car (9 months now) i have been having an issue with the starter motor.

It has been to the garage and they can;t see an issue but it isn't 'connecting' (according to my Dad).

I'd say 60% of the time it starts first time. All other times it makes a hideous screeching noise. The only way to sort it is to get out and rock the car, which usually works after the 4th ish attempt.

Fine in quiet area but not great when it is raining or in a supermarket car park!

Does anyone have any advice/ had similar issues?

The car i bought it from gave me £25 as consolation and offered no advice!

Best to remove starter motor and check teeth on pinion and also starter ring gear .Might find pinion sticking on shaft due to dirt / dust ,.If so easy to clean and free off.
