2007 Ford Ranger overheating

Hi
We have recently bought a Ford Ranger 2007 Thunder,We have noticed that the Temp.Gauge goes into the red when engine under load .ie at speed up long hill or towing the horse box up hill.
Any help please

check thermostat is working correctly,remove it and test it to make sure it is opening and closing,also make sure your radiator fan is working and that coolant is circulating around system
