2001 Ford Mondeo cold heater

Car: Ford Mondeo
Year: 2001
Variant: 2 litre ghia auto petrol
Categories: Leaks & Noises
The heater in my car is cold. I've wasted money having a new thermostat housing as the temp gauge is still in the middle where it was before. It's as if the climate control is saying the temperature has already been reached. When putting the non-existant hot air onto the windscreen symbol, the A/C light comes on and won't be manually switched off. Anyone know what the fault is ??

hi uncle
usually on fords the most common faults of a cold heater are air locks in the system or collapsed hoses, you can usually tell by squeezing the hoses.they feel too soft to the touch & appear wrinkled. the hoses may have an accute bend in them, which would restrict the flow. as for ridding the system of air, i've found if you remove rad / expan cap ( from cold ) start engine & run till warm whilst squeezing all the hoses by hand ( you can usually see air bubbles come out in header/ expan tank & this nearly always cures air lock problem. as for the a/c light coming on, sounds like electrical problem & maybe another member ( hot on car electrics ) might be able to help in that area. hope i've helped & you;ve soon got a clear screen & warm feet. best of luck uncle, let me know how you get on, regards dj dave.

Dave, the airlock theory didn't resolve it.
I will say though, that whilst under the bonnet looking for the air bubbles to appear, the A/C kept clicking, even though the light was not illuminated on the dashboard. Further symptom is, when I start the car from cold, the blower comes on without being switched on.
