Whilst driving, the Plug Heater Light comes on, & acceleration is lost. Turn off ignition, then start engine again, problem disappears, but will come another time.

sounds like problem with fuel pump or injectors,get a diagnostic done to read fault codes

I've had a mechanic look at it, but he can't find a fault code because the fault is intermittent. He beleives it's to do with the turbo, but can't find anything wrong
