Engine roars but there is no pickup

1996 Ford Mondeo 1.8I LX 16V
Car: Ford Mondeo
Year: 1996
Variant: 1.8I LX 16V
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Lately, my car (Ford Mondeo) seems to be getting increasingly sluggish. When I start up from zero speed in the first gear, by time I have not even reached 10mph, the engine roars as if it is doing 90mph and the accelerometer is already half way through. Practically, there is no pickup in 1st gear. This makes me move over to the second gear quickly even though I have not gained or picked up considerable speed. This is extremely annoying as I have to change gears even when I am starting out on a roundabout or turning at junctions.
Please note, I have just recently had a new clutch fitted so that problem has obviously got to be ruled out.
Please advise or suggest.

Thanks

Have your cat checked i had a simlar problem and it turned out to be down to the catalitic converter. As the cat starts to break down it sends the wrong emition readings to the computer ,so the computer goes into a safty mode.

was the same problem there before you had the clutch done if not then take it back to them as there is something a miss dont rule out the clutch just because its been replaced as it can still be faulty
