Wont start sometimes especially when cold. Battery still has full power

2006 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Ghia
Car: Ford Mondeo
Year: 2006
Variant: 2.0 TDCI Ghia
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Car won't start sometimes. Put ignition on and after the glow plug light disappears ,turn the key and the speedo and rev counter go right round to max and sounds like a click as if battery has died or no kick to start it. The car start with a booster pack.
When the car does start normally or with booster ,it will start but will take a good few seconds before it gets any power to move.

What battery voltage in battery ?
Answered Jul 23, 2020 (3 years ago)
12.4 when still. 16ish when running.
Answered Jul 23, 2020 (3 years ago)
If the battery is reading at 12.4 volts, then it’s 75% charged .If it's charging at " 16" ish , it is overcharging . Battery / alternator or both knackered
