Apparently ford say it's the steering lock actuator

If they have checked it out , cant disagree with that

I'm a little worried that they may say it is and try and fix it but it not actually be the issue

If they have checked and diagnosed that is the faulty part and needs replaced you should not be liable to pay if not successful . Confirm or not with garage before you decide though sometimes hard to give a 100% guarantee on some faults .
