2000 Ford Mondeo running very lumpy

Travelled to work yesterday morning at 5am, lots of rain so the roads around where i live were quite flooded, I'd only gone around 20 miles and felt the car become very sluggish. Today, I took it up to my local mechanic who connected his diagnostic reader, only came up with faults with both lambda sensors. His personal opinion was that the cat may have collapsed inside, any thoughts on this????

Checked for water in sensor plugs / wiring ?
