Suspension springs front

2001 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDDI MK3
Car: Ford Mondeo
Year: 2001
Variant: 2.0 TDDI MK3
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Changed oil last night, drove out of my close, 100 yards, and drove over a tree branch, blown in the high winds. The thing seems to have gone up the wheel arch and unseated the base of the spring from the cup on the upper end of the lower section of the strut. The car runs and brakes in a straight line. Visually, the spring is pushed in towards the engine bay by about 1 inch, so it's out of the cup at the bottom of the spring and it is pushing hard on the damper seal.

Question is does anybody know how to get it back in place?

Ta muchly.

I was considering laying my hands on a pair of spring compressors and reseating the spring that way. Are there any problems doing it that way??

She passed MOT 2 weeks ago 'taxi test standard'.

Was a MOT tester / garage for over 20 odd years but never heard of "MOT 'taxi test standard'unless it is something new .I would jack up that side , let susp hang and try and lever back into position .

if you can use some straps and put them around the spring to retain its position while load is on the car and then slowly raise the car to reseat the spring in the cup and loosen the straps till spring is back in place

A good idea to try and lever it back in as suggested, with care of course,it,s quite a long spring on that car and under a lot of compression so if it may not readily go back in you may have to compress it ,only you will know what is possible.

Play it safe and use spring compressors and a smear of rubber grease. (red grease) Hire comps. If you have none of your own. Cheers John Mantova
