1999 Ford Mondeo speedo stoped working and gear box has gone bonkers

I was driving home from essex with my new car all was fine when the speedo started to jump about then stoped. I lost top gear and the gear box started changing up and down. Gear change was smooth when i got it but is now jurky can anyone help,Regards Mark.

sounds like a mechanical fault in gearbox more than electrical fault could be a diff bearing in gearbox that has collapsed you could check for play by trying to move n/s drive shaft up and down at inner end where it fits in gearbox suggest taking to auto gearbox specialist for there opinion
