2003 Ford Mondeo front wipers not working properly

My front windscreen wipers only seem to work on the two highest settings they wont work on the intermittent setting and when I pull the switch to wipe the windscreen once they just stop when I release the switch is usually somewhere in the middle of the windscreen and dont go back to the park position.

Could be knackered motor and self parking mechanism inside or wiper stalk .

Could also check plug / wiring at motor . Not sure if on that year a GEM unit controls wipers and parking rather than older wiper motor set up .

Might be wrong but something rings a bell about the earth at the wiper motor causing problems , but may have been another car .
