my car broke down recently and was told by the recovery mechanic that the fuel pump had gone, iv just replaced it and its still not running properly, it starts up fine then struggles and stalls. any ideas what could be the problem now

It could be anything ,you have to get the codes read to guide diagnostics,Basic checks you could still do to try and see what it looses to cause the fault,and has the fuel filter been replaced.

Did you check that your actually getting power to the fuel pump can you hear it running ,priming the system ,if not check fuse.

Check the plugs and leads . Check timing .
