2006 Ford Mondeo heated rear screen blowing fuses

The heated rear screen on my Mondeo 2006 estate blew a fuse. I replaced the fuse, but it blew again. I checked the voltage at and resistance of the rear screen elements - all seemed OK. The heater works if the engine is not running, but as soon as the engine is switched on the fuse blows. As far as I know there is only the screen heater on this circuit. Has anyone come across this problem before or does anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem? Thanks.

Check for broken wires in wiring that passes into tail gate .

does the fuse blow if you disconnect the rear screen?
