Cruise Control temperamental

2009 Ford Mondeo Titanium diesel estate (manual transmission)
Car: Ford Mondeo
Year: 2009
Variant: Titanium diesel estate (manual transmission)
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Cruise control will not engage at all sometimes, will not even show "cruise control on standby"this seems to right itself if I stop, switch off engine, leave it for a while and then re-start car, it sometimes works then. Other times the cruise control engages no problem, but when i try to increase or decrease speed with steering wheel controls, the cruise control disengages. Again, this doesn't always happen. Ford dealer says it is a clutch slip and want £1100 for a new clutch and slave cylinder as this is not a warranty item, they say it is not the cruise control that is causing the problem? Does anyone have any experience of this?

I would think it,s more likely to be a switch requiring adjustment on one of your pedals which is where I would start the fault trace from.Other than that if any fault is logged in the engine management system this will disrupt the cruise control but as your able to get it to operate by engaging a new driving cycle it,s more likely to be a switch out of adjustment or poor contact.both the clutch and brake pedal have switches fitted. Are you experiencing a slipping clutch?

The mechanic at ford said he was so perplexed with the problem that he spoke to ford technical dept. they suggested it was the clutch slipping as they had come across this issue before. So the mechanic road tested it again and said there is a very slight slip, that i wouldn't even be able to hear but this is what is causing the CC problem. The car has only done 21,000 miles! My previous car (Ford Focus) which i had from new and had done 130,000 miles by the time i sold it, still had the original clutch, so i don't believe i would wear out a clutch after 21,000 miles. I think i might ask another garage to look at the switches as you suggest.....

Had very similar problem with my diesel mondeo thought clutch was faulty turned out to be fuel filter.

I have the same problem and ford wanted €1200 to repair. replaced clutch and flywheel and I am in dispute with payment as I am a professional driver and have had 5 mondeos and never burnt out a clutch.

Two weeks after replacement problem is recurring.

Have had same problem for last two years and have given up on getting problem fixed (since around 27000 miles).
Changing fuel filter did help and I also had a crack in fuel line that helped too.
Problem eventualy gets worse again and also when I put my foot down it sounds like clutch is slipping (am convinced this is a fuel problem)
