2010 Ford Mondeo oil service light has come on

I have only had the car for just over a month ad it was serviced by the main dealer before i brought it, so i was surprised to see the oil service light come on, i checked the dipstick and the oil is on maximum and quite dark. I removed the oil cap and it had a smell of burning/plasticy.
Should i start to panic or is it a simple fix by me or main dealer as it is under warranty.

As it is under warranty, just take the car back and let the garage take a look, as you may invalidate the warranty if you disturb anything...

Do you own a MK4 Mondeo, New Shape Transit or MK2 face lift Focus?
Do you do your own servicing or have had it serviced and still have the oil service light on?
Here are the instructions to switch off the service light:
THIS INFORMATION IS ONLY TO BE USED AFTER YOUR VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED.
Turn the ignition on (engine not running but dash lights illuminated).
Turn the ignition off.
Press down both the Accelerator (Throttle) and Brake peddles.
Turn the ignition on (engine not running but dash lights illuminated).
Keep both the Accelerator (Throttle) and Brake peddles held down for between 15 and 30 seconds.
Turn off ignition.
Release peddles.
Turn the ignition on (engine not running but dash lights illuminated).
Your service light should now be out.
You may have to OK it.
