2000 Ford Mondeo temperature gauge

when i first turn the car on the temperature gauge rises like its supose to but after a while it drops back to 0 if i pull up at a junction or get stopped in traffic my revs will go up to 3000 revs without me touching the throttle

Try changing the thermo temp sensor on the side of the radiator. The sensor communicates with the ECU and then tells the ECU if it he engine needs more or less fuel...

when driving the needle on the temperature gauge starts to rise as normal then drop off and the fan will kick in at which time you can take your feet off the accelarator and the car will still drive at 3500 revs doing 65 mph with no drop in revs. also if you come to a stop at traffic lights the engine will rev to 3000 revs with no feet on pedals al the time the fan is running. we have had a new thermostate fitted with new housing and new sensor plus al the pipes but it still does it please help its driving me mad.
