When accelerating the engine seems to hit a rev limiter. The number of revs varies in each gear. In 1st gear it is at approx 3500 revs and in higher gears around 3000 revs.
It is similar to the engine being in 'safe/get you home' mode

may well be in safe mode, a code read would be a good idea, could also be turbo wastegate stuck amongst a number of things
