2008 Ford Mondeo radio paint

I have a problem with the painwork on the radio it keeps flaking off revealing the original black plastic beneath.If you use silver paint to cover this then you also cover the the lamp that lights up the contol at night,This is the second radio Ive fitted to overcome the problem which at over £100 is a bit expensive to say the least.Any solutions would be appreciated
