2005 Ford Fusion engine overheating

engine overheating and using too much water causing red light to appear ECU been checked and okay Mechanic unable to fine cause thinks it may be electrical But although he has stated he has checked all possibilities is unable to find cause
Water tank replaced due to possible crack
Any other ideas

Your " mechanic " should carry out a pressure test on cooling system for external leaks and a block test for head / head gasket / internal leaks .Also check coolant fan operating correctly and cutting in when it should . .

Mechanic done all these matters and suggested only Ford can sort now as it might need a software update 02 Fusions had problems Do you think that may be answer and will it cost a lot

You can contact Ford dealership , give them vehicle details and ask if software updates are available .When serviced at Ford garages the cars are usually automatically checked and any updates applied .
