Automtic gears sticking

Just bought a 2008 ford fusion automatic. A couple of times i've pulled away but the gears haven't changed.It's like it's stuck in 1st gear. Ive had to pull up, put it in neutral and let it tick over for a few seconds before pulling away again. Any ideas please?

First thing I would check would be ATF (Auto trans fluid )If that's o.k , you will need to get it scanned / diagnostic check to see what faults show .
