2006 Ford Focus valve clatter at start up

When the car is started up the engine clatters
and it sounds as if it the tappets. The engine sounds very noisy. (tappet noise )
A friend has said it is the variable valves whatever they are and do??.
I have had the engine flushed out and new oil and filter fitted. It made the engine quieter at start up for a couple of days but is now back tapping at start up,

Are you positive it is a valve problem, I was on the Ford merry go round for three years before they changed the clattering fly wheel, all was ok for a while when they changer the oil but it came back. I have 3 years of lies, if it is a manafacture fault they must stand over it. contact Ford Uk if you have no luck with dealer,

faulty hydraulic lifters or sticking buckets can cause this.Has the correct grade of oil been used and was the vehicled revved continuous at standstill to 3000 rpm for a while as this is sometimes needed to fill the lifters with the correct amount of oil.

Just to add to " paulieone's " suggestion , some people say this works , " wynns hydraulic valve lifter treatment " though cant vouch for it myself .

this is your valve seat problem ,they all have this problem you need to take the cylinder head out and see which seat is lose, a good machine shop will fix it for your

If it was " valve seat problem " you would get the noise all the time , not just at start up .

when it warms up it seats right tight

any body thought to look at the obvious..... oil pressure!!! does it have any at start up???
