Could try disconnecting hazard light switch and also check indicator relay if fitted . On MK2 models , indicators were controlled through the BCM ( body controll module )

Same thing happened to me this week. The fault is in the hazard warning switch. On some Focus models the switch incorporates the flasher relay (I bought a seperate relay and dismantled the car looking for it!!). You can tell if this is the case as there wil be a metal heatsink on the back of the switch. If this is the one, the part number is 98AG13A350. I got one off ebay for about a fiver.

To get to the switch you need to remove the sterio and undo the four screws holding the panel with the heating controls on. The lot comes out then. YOu don't, as one Ford dealer said, need to take the whole dash out!

Hope it helps
