2001 Ford Focus speedo not working and engine jerking

My speedo has started working intermitantly (working or not working ) and the car has now started jerking when this happens. The engine does not jerk every time the speedo oes not work. When the juddering happened we pulled over and switched the car off.When we restarted the problem went. Since this time the judder has not reappeared but the speedo is still working intermitantly.

Could be speed sensor .
