Speed drops back while driving

1998 Ford Focus 1.8 zetec

have problem when car has been running for a while and you are at a steady speed the engine decreeses in speed and then builds back up again. not been the most popular person on the roads. any help or possible ideas would be much appreciated many thanks.

Could be fuel filter needing replaced .

i had a simular problem with my fiesta and it was the coil pack and leads that needed replacing. other problem mite be causing it, something i to had a problem with was the brake pads were seizing up, so the car would not tend to build up speed, therefore dropping back.
