Rattling noise

as soon as engine is switched on a rattling noise comes from left hand side belt just started today don't know what it is?

You dont say what engine in car , but hard to diagnose without hearing it .Better to get it checked as it could be water pump , idler / tensioner , alternator etc. and if not fixed could develop into something major .Hope it's something simple .
