Over revving

every now and then the car will over rev and try to pull away. The problem is starting to happen mor and more frequently. The car has been fully serviced and there are no warning lights to indicate any problem.

You dont say what size engine ? petrol / diesel ?Could be Throttle Position Sensor? or throttle body needing cleaned ?

I have the same problem on my 1.8 petrol estate 2001. Revving up to 4000rpm when idle and pulling me along faster when driving, this is quite scary and pretty dangerous.
